Accessibility Statement
Last updated: [add date]
BURECHO is committed to making our website usable for as many people as possible, regardless of ability, technology, or circumstance. This statement explains the standards we follow, what we've done, what we know isn't perfect yet, and how to tell us if something doesn't work for you.
This template is provided as a starting point. Review and adapt it to match your actual website implementation and the laws of the jurisdictions you operate in (e.g. the European Accessibility Act, the UK Equality Act 2010, the US Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508).
1. Our Commitment
We believe an online shop should be open to everyone. We work to design, build, and maintain BURECHO so that:
- People using screen readers, magnifiers, or voice control can browse and buy without barriers.
- The site works without a mouse — keyboard navigation is supported throughout.
- Text is legible, colour contrast is sufficient, and content can be resized without breaking the layout.
- Forms (including checkout) have clear labels, helpful error messages, and don't rely on colour alone.
- Images that convey information have text alternatives; decorative images are marked as such.
2. Conformance Status
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, limited movement, speech difficulties, photosensitivity, and combinations of these.
Our current conformance status is [partially conformant / fully conformant] with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content don't fully meet the standard — see the limitations section below.
3. Measures Taken
To support accessibility, BURECHO takes the following steps:
- Include accessibility considerations in the design and code review of new features.
- Use semantic HTML, ARIA attributes where appropriate, and a logical heading structure.
- Test new pages with automated accessibility tools as part of our build pipeline.
- Run periodic manual reviews with keyboard-only navigation and screen-reader testing.
- Train team members involved in content, design, and development on accessibility basics.
- Welcome and act on feedback from users — your reports help us prioritise fixes.
4. Compatibility
BURECHO is designed to work with recent versions of the following browsers and assistive technologies:
- Browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (current and previous major release).
- Operating systems: Windows 10/11, macOS 12+, iOS 16+, Android 12+.
- Screen readers: NVDA and JAWS on Windows; VoiceOver on macOS and iOS; TalkBack on Android.
- Input: mouse, keyboard, touch, and voice control.
The site may not work as well in browsers older than five years or with assistive technologies that don't support modern web standards.
5. Technical Specifications
Accessibility on BURECHO relies on the following technologies working together with your browser and any assistive software:
- HTML
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS
- JavaScript
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the WCAG criteria. If any are disabled in your browser, parts of the site may not behave as expected.
6. Known Limitations
We're not perfect yet. Despite our best efforts to make BURECHO accessible, there are areas we know fall short or that we're actively working on:
- Third-party content. Embedded media, customer reviews, and live-chat widgets are provided by third parties whose accessibility we cannot fully control.
- Older content. Some product images and historical blog posts may lack descriptive alt text or use insufficient colour contrast. We're updating these as part of our regular content reviews.
- PDFs and downloadable documents. Older documents may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Where possible we provide an HTML alternative — contact us if you need a specific file in an accessible format.
- Video and audio. Captions and transcripts are added on a rolling basis; let us know if a specific video isn't yet captioned and we'll prioritise it.
If you encounter another issue not listed here, please report it (see below). Your feedback helps us improve.
7. Feedback and Contact
We welcome feedback on the accessibility of BURECHO. If you find a barrier, can't access content, or have a suggestion, please let us know:
- Email: [your accessibility email]
- Phone: [your phone number] (during opening hours — see our Contact page)
- Post: [your registered address], marked "Accessibility"
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days. Where a fix is straightforward we'll release it as soon as we can; for larger issues we'll be transparent about timelines and progress.
8. Formal Complaints
If you're not satisfied with our response, you may be entitled to escalate your complaint to the regulator in your jurisdiction. Useful contacts include:
- United Kingdom: the Equality and Human Rights Commission under the Equality Act 2010.
- European Union: the national authority designated under the European Accessibility Act.
- United States: the Department of Justice — ADA.
9. Assessment Approach
This statement is based on:
- Self-evaluation by our development and design team.
- Automated testing using accessibility-focused tools as part of our build pipeline.
- [Optional] Third-party audit by [name of auditor], last conducted on [date].
10. Date of Statement
This statement was prepared on [date]. It is reviewed and updated at least once a year, and following any significant changes to the website.
